Need Endodontic Treatment?
There are many ways in which a tooth can be injured, including through tooth decay, infection or accident. If you have had a traumatic dental injury, it is important to seek immediate treatment from a dental professional. For dental injuries that have spread to the inner pulp of the tooth, our endodontists can thoroughly repair damaged tissue. If you have chips, fractures, cracks, or knocked out teeth, visit Dr. Matt Lloyd or Dr. Paul Clark for treatment.
Cracks can seriously compromise the structure of a tooth, as well as cause discomfort and sensitivity. There are many kinds of cracks that can appear in a tooth. Meet with our endodontists at McKinney Endodontics to see if your injury requires endodontic treatment.
Some of the common types of cracks we see are:
craze lines, which are small cracks in the surface of the enamel. They usually do not require anything beyond cosmetic treatment.
fractured cusps, which happen when the ends, or cusps, of the teeth fracture or break off. Depending on the extent of the damage, this may require endodontic treatment.
cracked tooth, which can extend from the top cusp of the tooth towards the dental root. When this happens, a root canal is often necessary.
split tooth, when the tooth breaks into two or more parts. Patients will need to schedule an endodontic treatment in order to save the tooth.
vertical root fracture, which extends from the bottom root to the top of the tooth. Endodontic surgery can sometimes save the tooth if it is treated quickly.
Gum disease and tooth decay happen when bacteria build up and infect parts of the tooth. If the infection reaches the inner portion of the tooth, you may need to plan an endodontic treatment. Let our endodontists know if you notice any signs of infection, from bleeding and swollen gums, to toothache and discomfort.
